A trip to the Harvard Recycling Center left Kate Steinman, Ajay Nathan, and I in possession of an old adjustable swivel chair with an interesting feature. Its max height was nearly twice as high as that of a typical office chair, sparking an idea for a new conception of work spaces.
Many studies have shown that using dual monitors increases work efficiency. Even Dell released a report on dual monitor effectiveness. The extra screen real-estate helps users find and organize information faster. Users can also layout each monitor seperately, optimizing each for their specific purpose. Many of these benefits could be applied to the idea of working with multiple desktops as well.
Our chairs unique ability to change in height so dramatically give the user the potential to use two desk surfaces: The one at the maximum height of this fight and one at a normal desk height. This allows users to spread out their work out over two desk.
The old chair that we found at the Harvard Recycling center ended up being an inspiration for trying to overcome the traditional desk.
